Waterdeep Back Online

We are back online, no further damage than what was really reported in the previous post here.

- 6 EQ Lockers were nulled (destroyed). 5 have relocated to the limbo room because the room they were in disappeared (see next damaged item).

- The Zozo City Property Zone was damaged, zone has reverted to an older version of itself. The 5 relocated lockers are assumed from this area.

- Airships 'The Blitzin Runner, The Naxalite & The Chupacabra' have also relocated to the limbo room due to disappearing. Owners can just 'tow' their ship back to the world.

Other damage unrelated to players...

- Area.lst file nulled.
- Lockers.lst file nulled.
- Moneystat.dat file nulled.
- ActivityStat.dat file nulled.

All systems are green, please contact the immortal staff if you are experiencing any problems.

Waterdeep Offline, Explosions and Fires Run Wild...

WaterdeepMUD is currently offline. Our server was hit last night by something which basically took a 23% filled hard drive and ass fucked it to 100%. This unfortunatly has done damage to the game. Player Files (pfiles) are -fine-, we've safe guarded from them being 'nulled' out. Airship Files (afiles) are -fine- as far as we can tell. Equipment Lockers (efiles) have been effected, localized to just 6 lockers which were nulled (no data). Note Files (nfiles) have been removed as a few of them nulled and they always tend to corrupt.

So at this moment in time (4:30pm Eastern Standard) the mud is offline, and both myself (Nisstyre) and the Kalilyn Server Admin Meathe (known as Corean on WD) are working on this problem. For the time being as many already have, you can go check out our sister mud 'Time of Darkness' which was unaffected by the hard drive spike. Web site is linked in the left hand menu on this site, and of course their banner at the bottom has the address. I am known by one of my literature characters there (Ackmon). You can also check back to this page for updates.

And We Are Back

Two weekends ago it was an entire server blackout, this weekend was a web page blackout, but unrelated to the server blackout which was caused by the exploding transformer and holy shit are those guys doing some massive reconstruction. Basically they're replacing the electrical lines going into the building, tearing up the parking lot and laying new lines. Extensive, but at least you know when renting off them that you are getting your moneys worth.

Did a few small changes to the web site, namely split up the Game Article section, and added a new article called the Levelling Guide, created from several people who posted to me on the mud. This is for people who are not looking for a challenge, because a real man doesn't need a guide, he would explore and rule over these new lands they are exploring. I say this because reading an article on TopMudSite, seems you can be too helpful towards people.

Also on a side note we now have an advertisement button on their site, appears on 75% of the pages but unlike banner rotation, its always seen. Thank you to the few people who donated towards WaterdeepMUD Advertisement, our next task is to get a banner on Mudconnector. Strange, after 11 years we're now just starting paid advertisements.

Diem is now the Thursday Night Fight Champion, defeating Stratos. The WBA section has been updated and now contains info about Thursday Night Fight and a list of the winners and how long they hold the belt (so far...2).

Also added into the section is Anarchy City Zozo's results and kill counts, for those who have been looking for them.

Mud Destroys Electrical Transformer & Anarchy City Zozo Results

.. WaterdeepMUD.Com and WDMUD.COM (Website & Game) are both back online yet again after almost three days offline. No we didn't forget to pay the light bill, in short call it an act of god. But since I love to explain things, let's get to it.

.. WaterdeepMUD Entertainment (The name given to the mud, websites etc) is hosted by Kalilyn Hosting Company (a great company) for free.

.. Kalilyn Hosting Company (like most commerical hosting companies) rents its servers from a giant network, in their case 'ThePlanet' formally EV1 formally Rackshack.

.. On Saturday (May 31st) at 4:55pm CDT time, electrical equipment in ThePlanet's H1 DataCenter shorted out and caused an explosion that took out three walls on the first floor of the facility. This killed power to 9000 server racks and brought a small chunk of the internet offline. And that people is where the mud & website disappeared to. Unfortunatly Kalilyn Hosting is located on the first floor which took alot of abuse from the explosion, and currently the racks are running off diesel generators (while the bastards on the second floor have main power). So we're back online due to a temp. fix and there will be another outage either Saturday the 7th or Saturday the 14th when they switch the first floor back onto main power, after of course rebuilding the electrical room.

.. Also I have created an 'emergency' page in case something like this happens again on my free web site account with my ISP. Bookmark it and if something bad happens to the game again, check it for details (of course now it needs to be updated). I had also changed our description at Mudconnector to report what was going on (and linked that web site to it).
