August 9th Town Hall Meeting

.. Alot of people always ask, what is the point of a WaterdeepMUD Town Hall Meeting, and for any random stranger this is when all the players of the game are invited to a meeting with the staff, and general topics are discussed. We usually do them to gather ideas or what to change about the game, and sometimes we do them just to let people 'steam' off as some need to do. For the most part the two go hand in hand, people steam off, and we get ideas.

.. To mark one fact, as of this past August 12th WaterdeepMUD went beyond being an ancient decade old game to an even older game, well not really but we have now entered the terrible 11 and guess what, its time for puberty.

.. Anyone who attended the meeting might have thought it was pointless, because yes, in general the 'Mgossip' channel is spammed to hell, people talking left to right, subjects and topics blurring together or wandering utterly away. But through the mess and noise we have people who pull the raw data out (this time Mask did it).

NOTICE!!!! The following lists are -not- what we are going to be doing with the mud, it is a summary of the town hall meeting, and the staff will take ideas there. Anything we want to discuss further such as major changes, such as that first one winking at you below in Code Projects (which has been chattered about for weeks now) is something that would require at least another Town Hall Meeting in which we would explain how the entire thing would work, look for suggestions, comments, changes and whatnot, then change what we feel should be changed. We will be posting a list of 'Close to the Future' changes here within the next couple of weeks.


[ CODE PROJECTS ]

1. Make clans NPK/PK

2. Make race based skills/spells (more specific well defined ideas welcome, one suggested list already posted by Alsin)

3. Make Legend Levels (102-105)

4. Give liches "detect imp invis"

5. Give liches "preserve corpse"

6. Give liches an new skill/spell (more specific well defined ideas welcome)

7. Make a new arena system that allows group vs. group challenges

8. Make limited multiclassing which allows chars to gain non-hero skills of other classes.

8. Make tradeskills

9. Allow factionwars

10. Change effects and amount of damage done by draconian spells

11. Make it take longer to "max" skills

12. Add new skills/spells (more specific well defined ideas welcome)


[ NON-CODE PROJECTS ]

1. Make runs harder and diversfied as far as classes required to complete them.

2. Create new quest equipment

3. Hold RP based IQ's

4. Imms should monitor clans/factions more heavily

5. Remove restrictions on clan halls and allow clan builders

6. Post statistics as far as money, richest players, most pks per clan, activity, and other random tidbits.

7. More mprogs like the GoP series but REDUCE the cost of attaining the end result or simply make the end result a qp reward.

8. Open new areas

9. Clear arena legend, pk legend, and toppilot more often

10. Hold more IQ's

11. Hold more "Anarchy" and "UD" events without the double damage and other "bullshit" flags. Basically just NOLOOT and FREEPK.

12. Create a congress of players from clans, factions, and other organizations to meet regularly and discuss "stuff".

.. A few of the things talked about I missed, such as...the Congress which is the last thing mentioned just above. I'm unsure if people meant an actual group of players kind of like the town hall meeting, that would work with the staff on things, or the 'RP' Congress group which I had tried to do a year ago, which would involve at least 1 person from each 'group' including loners, outlaws and the non-clanned who would make up the Tripowerian Congress, which is how the Democracy-Kingdom that is the Tripower operates.

Town Hall Meeting, August 9th 2008

First off, we're in a new voting cycle. Yes we've been drilling this into your head for the past year, but endurance does pay off. We're currently 61 with a mere 7 votes and we should be back in the 20s since only 20+ votes would put us there currently, so, go vote, at least once, cause no one is at the moment.

Then we will be holding a Town Hall Meeting this Saturday at 7pm Eastern Standard Time, 19:00 Waterdeep Standard Time (type TIME or the clock on the website). I will be holding several of these as we enter the fall/winter season at different times and days of the week, to give everyone at least 1 chance to hit them up. Main subject is what direction should this mud be heading, because for the moment we've been going in circles and idle with any progress, both in the mortal and immortal ways.

The mud did get a one/two punch over the spring, Bane was dragged away due to his job, and Dugmaren who had been heading up the builders port went MIA on us, tripping anything area wise we had in the works. Its time to dust ourselves off and get a game plan written out. This includes as always changes/suggestions/ideas from the players, especially the newer ones we have gotten lately. You guys came from other games, you might be able to suggest things, such as...

A way to 'fix' the gang-bang aspect that has become PK to many people's dislikings, changes could be made to certain skills, say 'Circle'. The basic idea is the damage circle deals with becomes 'double' when you get gang banged (1 on 1 which becomes 2 on 1) or even triple damage (3 on 1). Was an interesting idea. I will be collecting ideas at this meeting, and we will have a 'Construction' page on the website that will outline our future goals and changes to the game.

I'd also like to talk about roleplaying, things we can do to advance and enhance it, as I do see the Legion - Magitek conflict and the reactivation of the clans had create some roleplaying and a whole lot of writing.

Also keep in mind these meetings usually last several hours, so you can always show up late too.
