Greetings!
Just want to take a minute to let those of you who care know about something pithy that's going on on the 'net next weekend. Blogathon 2005.
What this is is 24 hours of live blogging with required posting every half hour. Live blogging for charity (or if you're a lamer like me, doing what you usually do anyway except this time for a good cause). Just like any other thon, people agree to sponsor you and at the end if you make it, they pay the charity. Sponsorship can be as little as 5 dollars and I've seen everything from AIDS to world hunger to Rupert from Survivor's foundation.
I've signed up for Doctors Without Borders, I've seen them in action during the war and after the tsunami and I was impressed with their commitment.
No, I'm not posting this to ask for sponsors (but if anyone wants to sponsor I won't say no) but to let anyone who's into this sort of stuff know. I can offer a free Movable Type blog to anyone who wants to do this, leave me a note.
I've got more info on my campaign on my own blog (webkittynwarbles.com) and the official Blogathon site is at http://www.blogathon.org if you want more info. You can pick pretty much any charity you want and it's just all around good juju.
So that's it, blogging for a good cause. Who says the 'net is useless..
Greetings Bloggers!
As the holiday weekend approaches here I'll take a moment to wish Canada a happy Canada Day yesterday and the US of A a happy 4th of July!
I'd also like to wish BoRCom - Blogs of Roleplay a very happy two year birthday, which was celebrated on June 29th. My thanks to all of you who have helped make this place what it is for the past two years.
Let me get right down to it, there's stuff to explain.
Those of you with blogs on MoreBlogs and with real-life blogs on Realplay will be happy to know we have finally gotten the MT Protect working as it should be! Deep deep gratitude to Meathe for spending so much of his own time making it work and thanks to Venice for being brave enough to try it each step we took. Fine details are still being worked on but you may now restrict access to entries on those two domains.
Yesterday Movable Type announced they will soon be coming out with MT 3.2 and it's going to be big. There have been smaller changes since 3.x first came out but 3.2 is expected to be a big thing. With this in mind, I'm not going to add the Protect plug-in to EnchantedEidolons until the new version is released but once it is, Eidolons users will also be able to restrict access to their entries.
MoreBlogs, Eidolons, Realplay and Realplay's two associated domains will be upgrading to MT 3.2 as soon as it comes out. It should not impact template design, it's not that sort of change. We hope. Oy. Nah, it should go well and I'm really looking forward to the new options.
Once again, I offer free advertising space for any of you who want it. Send me your game's banner and I'll post it. Send me a link to your website (real or IC) and I'll post it. No hitch, no catch, just free advertising.
Our July Blog of the Month is Musing, Meandering, authored by Meathe. The design is wonderful, I often find myself staring at it just to see the seal bob across the screen. On top of pithy design, Meathe went way above and beyond the call of duty and/or friendship to make the MT Protect work. Without his keen mind and willing nature there would be no protection option. Thank you, Meathe.
Our July Website of the month is the home of the 'blogosphere' so often mentioned on the major news channels. I highly recommend signing up and getting yourself into the ecosystem, it's fun and oddly addictive. My own personal blog is currently a 'crawly amphibian' and I eagerly await the day I evolve to 'marauding marsupial.' Support this website, it's a great thing.
The site-wide facelift continues behind the scenes, any day now I expect to plunk down a whole new set of links and even a few templates for MT 3.x for people to use at will.
I've also done a cleanup today of blogs that have sat without even one post for 3 months or longer. The following blogs and authors have been removed from the system:
Burden - Authored by Bound by Hate
The Damned - Authored by Skilgannon
Demiglot - Authored by Demiglot
Forsaken - Authored by Mizuhime
GCCI - Authored by Neil Armand
Insane Clown Pose - Authored by Jordan
Marilia's Memory - Authored by Marilia
Realistic Fantasy - Authored by Disordered Thoughts
Sarcabiam - Authored by Andii Rey
Shattered Memories - Authored by Twitch
Stusology - Authored by Stuart
Tav Archale - Authored by Tommy Gilliam
War of the Rings - Authored by Dython
And to close, I'd like to thank our most recent donors. It's not the amount, it's the fact that you cared enough to donate. Thank you.
So that's it for the moment, I anticipate July to be an active month. May you all have a grand Summer, don't overheat and don't forget to blog!
Blog on!
