OOC Commentary: Deeply Saddened

I am saddened at the deterioration of class and decorum at the MUD. The total lack of regard for common decency and human feelings is just astounding.

I've been on the game for quite a number of years and I have never seen the amount of hate language and random abuses that I have seen as of the last maybe 6 months on WD.

I have noticed that this sort of activity occurs the most when there are no active (or visible) immortals are on to stop it. (late evenings and early mornings.)

I personally will no longer sit by and allow this to continue. I don't have a problem with people cursing and things like that, but the hate speech and disgusting personal jabs just really need to stop. I say that the only way to do is it twofold.

Here are the steps:

1. Document
2. Report

I think if we as a collective take the time to document the behavior and then report it to the appropriate parties, we can do something big. I am one lone voice in the grand scheme of things, but I know that if others step up and let these people know that their behavior and words WILL NOT be tolerated, I think we can see some change. This is our game and we should be able to log on and feel comfortable. If you're with me on this, please begin to document and report to these incidents to the immortals.

Thank you.

Dear Taryn: A Non-Believer Speaks

Taryn's Note: I received this message from a young ranger named, Shalyn. Although I do not agree with her views, I did advise that I would make her words public for those that may be interested.

Dear Taryn:

Believe in The Power of You!

So many have this idea that you must have a belief a faith if you will in a deity or deities in order to survive in this world.

A deity to make your crops grow, a deity for luck, a deity for the realms of magical power.

What if all of this was an untruth? That you, as a person, has the power to change and create your own destiny.

A person with a greenthumb makes their own crops grow. Through skill and teaching anyone can learn to grow a crop. Dear Druidess, you are powerful in your own right, you cannot truly believe there is an "Earth Mother" out there that provides you with your knowledge and knack for earth tilling and gardening.

What about the warriors? Can they honestly think that it is a deity that provides them skill with their swords and fists? I think not. I say it is through careful training and concentration that they are able to take down their enemies. Not some lucky charm and surely not a prayer!

I stand on a side that I am sure will be most unpopular. I stand on the side of the Godless. I do not believe in deities. They are mere humans with powers, just like the rest of us. Not cosmic beings but people who have through time honed their skills and through the eyes of people who feel they are lesser have given themselves a title, a status.

Are there others out there like me? I think there are. Will they stand for what you believe in? I truly hope so.

Senator...

Myself and Emalia Haverland have been named as the TriPower Senate representatives for the Crimson Guardians. I have to admit I am rather excited by this prospect and I look forward to serving my clan and the people in whatever capacity I am able.
